The Dreaded Talk

There comes a time in every person’s life where the dreaded talk comes crawling into your life and neither you or your partner can ignore it. Recently my boyfriend was offered a job opportunity in another country and although the news shocked me, I encouraged him to take the offer because it was an opportunity of a life time. I couldn’t imagine myself being the type of person to hold someone back from achieving greatness. After speaking to my friends, the situation became more confusing. They asked me if I had known about the opportunity whilst he was in the interview stages and I had to sheepishly reply no, because I hasn’t. Then it occurred to me, if he was applying to jobs overseas, was he ready to leave me? Why did he not tell me he had made it to the final round of interviews? I almost wish I never spoke to my friends about the situation, having obvious pints thrown in your face by others is down right humiliating. Nevertheless, I continued to support any decision my boyfriend might make because at the end of the day, it was his to make. To cut a long story short, the company that offered the job was unable to sponsor a visa and therefore my boyfriend had to reject the offer. The question now is, where does this leave us? During this time, he decided to hand in his letter of resignation to his employer which has subsequently left him unemployed. Due to my father being ill, I decided to fly home to help my mother out around the house. This morning I received a call from my boyfriend to tell me that he made it to the third round of interviews for this job in Spain. I mean, hit me over the head and call me Suzan, are we seriously going through this again? The dreaded talk has almost taken a back seat at this point because of everything going on in our lives, but some things cannot be ignored. The thing about being a supportive partner is that it starts to become expected in the relationship even at times where the outcome can really hurt you.

What I've come to realize is that the dreaded talk sometimes does more harm then good. If your gut it telling you something, listen to that rather than focusing on what the other person has to say because 9/10 you are talked out of how you really feel.
