I have a complicated relationship with my boss. It is a love hate relationship, and often we cross each other's boundaries.
How do you manage that? I want to build my way in the corporate ladder, but I feel having a more complex relationship makes it difficult for me to ask for more responsibilities and higher pay.
When I do, the conversation becomes more personal and less actionable.
Navigating a nuanced relationship with your boss doesn’t mean you’re doomed professionally. But it does mean you have to be more self-aware, more strategic, and sometimes a little more assertive than feels comfortable. If you’ve ever felt like your dynamic with your boss is both your biggest asset and your biggest hurdle—you’re not alone. I'm still figuring it out, but I’ve learned that clarity, consistency, and courage go a long way.
Can you share insights on how to manage this?
